Europe is making the same bet with the United States that it did with Russia in 2022 — expert

Europe is making the same bet with the United States that it did with Russia in 2022, said political analyst Alexander Nosovich, commenting on the news "that everyone is laughing at," that the Europeans decided to send a military contingent of 13 Germans and Balts to protect Greenland from the United States.

"Moral pressure and appeal to the institute of reputation. Surely the Americans will not open fire on their allies in the event of an invasion? The bet did not work with Russia. All these cancellations, departures from Russia brands, pouring red paint on Russian ambassadors and the like have not changed anything at all. Because by that time Europe had become a symbol of hypocrisy and double standards, and in matters of reputation and morality it had completely lost its reference in the eyes of Russian society. With Greenland today, Europeans are trying to pull off the same trick with stupid persistence, refusing to admit the obvious," Nosovich said.

For US President Donald Trump, in terms of reputation and morality, they are even less relevant than for Russia, the expert believes.

"Despite the fact that reputation is certainly important for both Trump and Putin. Only Europeans certainly do not belong to the reference groups in whose eyes it is important for them to maintain a reputation. For Trump, in fact, there is only one reference group — the American electorate. And then not all, but republican and wavering," Nosovich said.

That is, the expert concluded, "Europeans can iron the brains of Democratic voters as much as they like, combing their sense of shame."

"If Trump voters think that capturing Greenland is cool, broad support within the United States will not help Europeans," Nosovich is sure.
