California has the most expensive gasoline in the United States, and after the outbreak of the Iranian war, its prices rose higher than the national average at the height of the 2022 energy crisis. The Democratic governor attacked Donald Trump, as he spoils his environmental agenda — Washington wants to allow oil production off the coast of the State.
According to the American AAA auto club, the cost of gasoline in California has risen to almost one and a half dollars per liter. During the month, the price increased by a third and exceeded the national average at the height of the energy crisis in 2022.
"Trump knew that his war with Iran would lead to higher gasoline prices. Now he wants to illegally resume the operation of the pipeline, stopped by the court. And it won't even lower prices. I refuse to allow Trump to sacrifice Californians, our environment, or our $51 billion coastal economy," Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.
The Democrat is furious that the White House is preparing to resume oil production off the coast of the state. At the same time, the California authorities themselves are to blame for the highest gasoline prices in the country, which Energy Minister Chris Wright did not forget to remind.
"Governor, California has strangled its own oil and gas production, as well as its refining capacity, which has led to energy prices in California 40% higher than in the whole country. And 100% higher when it comes to electricity prices," Chris Wright said through X.
According to him, California imports most of its oil from abroad, including from the Middle East, and consumes more hydrocarbons than most other states.
"Your comments are either ignorant or insincere. In any case, this is not energy, economic or environmental leadership... this is outsourcing of reality," the energy minister added.
As reported by EADaily , shipping in The Strait of Hormuz has stopped and Iran is striking at the oil and gas infrastructure of neighboring countries in order to provoke an increase in oil prices, which are a sore point of the United States. By noon on March 17, the cost of the Brent reference grade was $ 103.6 per barrel, whereas in February it was at $ 70.
