Director of National Intelligence of the United States (oversees the American intelligence community) Tulsi Gabbard with his confessions during the hearing in The Congress on the situation with Iran openly drowns the head of the US administration, Donald Trump. Political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov drew attention to this.
"Devastating hearings in Congress. Representatives of the US intelligence community testified under oath about the course of the chaotic operation against Iran. They have to sit on two chairs — to take responsibility for the consequences of the war, but at the same time not directly substitute their president," the expert writes in his telegram channel, adding that it is also undesirable to openly lie, since this is a criminal offense.
Most attention is focused on Tulsi Gabbard, whose closest ally, the head of the US counterterrorism center, Joe Kent, resigned and accused the Israeli lobby of provoking a war with Iran.
"Gabbard stated that Iran has the ability to create intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States. However, nothing was said about whether Iran actually tried to produce them. Although Trump has stated that Iran has such a program," the political scientist points out.
He notes that a similar confusion in the testimony was observed in the issue of nuclear weapons. Moreover, Gabbard pointedly refused to say whether Trump was warned about the risks of blocking the Strait of Hormuz. Probably, the Trump team believed that a lightning strike would succeed in decapitating Iran, and no blocking of Hormuz would happen in this case.
"The same goes for attacks on Gulf monarchies, no one warned Trump about this. At the same time, Gabbard stated the destruction of Tehran's military capabilities, but the preservation of the foundations of the Iranian state system. She doesn't want to quit yet, but in general she is already openly drowning Trump. Not everyone wants to go down on a ship with their captain," the expert concludes.
EADaily adds: Reuters, citing informed sources, reported that the administration of President Trump is considering sending thousands of troops to the Middle East to conduct ground operations against Iran. According to sources, troops may be deployed to ensure the safe passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. In this case, they will have to take up positions on the Iranian coast along the waterway.
Sending ground units to Khark Island, a key center for Iranian oil exports, is also being considered. One of the agency's interlocutors called such an operation "very risky" due to the possibility of Iranian forces hitting the island with drones and missiles. In addition, an operation is being discussed to seize Iran's highly enriched uranium reserves by the military.
"At the moment, no decision has been made on the deployment of ground forces, but President Trump is wisely considering all options," a White House spokesman told Reuters.
Prior to that, Washington had already planned to send an amphibious rapid reaction group to the Middle East. We are talking about a unit that includes more than 2 thousand Marines. In total, the American group in the Middle East has about 50 thousand military personnel.
