Why don't we call it, you know, the American Strait?" — said one of the senior administration officials.
The US president said last night at the Saudi investor forum in Miami that he might decide to name the strait after himself, and not after America.
"They have to open the Trump Strait — I mean Hormuz," Trump said.
The idea of renaming the strait "gained popularity... after an image of a seemingly fake post on Truth Social, allegedly written by the president, showed a map of the strait with a new name," the newspaper writes.
"President Trump has just published a photo renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of America. Let's do it!" — such a post was published on Facebook❶ on March 16 by the pro-Trump influencer Benny Johnson, who faced repeated accusations of plagiarism in his former journalistic career.

A senior administration official told the newspaper that Trump is determined to open the strait because its closure causes oil prices to rise by more than 50%.
Note that this whole supposedly funny story about renaming is more like a screen with which they are trying to cover up the unsuccessful course of the Iranian campaign.
Over the past two weeks, Trump has unsuccessfully tried to force US allies from NATO to engage in a coalition to open the Strait of Hormuz.
