The only country that has used nuclear weapons is the United States. Such a statement in response to Donald Trump's criticism of himself was made by Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
"As far as I know, nine countries have nuclear weapons, and only one of them has ever used them. This country is the United States," Corriere della Sera quotes the statement of the head of the Italian government, who previously published an interview with the American president with criticism of Meloni.
She urged the head of the White House to control his emotions, pointing out that the United States does not have the moral right to lecture about the nuclear threat, being the only country that has used such weapons in practice.
"Mr. Trump should tone it down. No one scatters nuclear threats like Washington, and he should watch his words," Meloni said.
As previously reported, the conflict occurred against the background of Italy's refusal to directly participate in US military operations against Iran and a ban on the use by American military aircraft of the Italian Sigonella airbase in Sicily for strikes. Meloni's position was supported by both her allies and the opposition inside Italy, condemning Trump's disrespectful attitude, including towards the pope, for whom Meloni stood up.
