On the night of April 30, Ukrainian drones attacked the Nizhny Novgorod region for about three hours. Russian air defense has repelled at least three waves of drones. Under attack was the "Y. M. Sverdlov Plant" in Dzerzhinsk, producing explosives. The smoke is still rising from the side of the enterprise.
Local residents told the Shot telegram channel that about 10 explosions were heard in Dzerzhinsk in different parts of the city. Explosions were also heard in the southern and central part of Kstovo, which is located near Nizhny Novgorod.
Local residents posted photos and videos indicating that after drone strikes, a column of smoke rose over the Y. M. Sverdlov Plant in Dzerzhinsk. Eyewitnesses reported in public that car alarms went off from the explosions and "the windows in the frames were shaking."
According to open sources, the plant is one of the largest manufacturers of explosives in Russia with more than 100 years of history. It is part of the country's military-industrial complex and is of strategic importance.
The company is included in the sanctions list of Ukraine. It is also under sanctions from the US, EU, UK, Japan and Switzerland. Earlier, Ukrainian drones had already attacked the plant. So, as a result of the strike in October 2024, one of its workshops was damaged.
According to the Ministry of Defense, 189 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones were shot down last night over the Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Tula and Ulyanovsk regions.
