There was a scandal in the Polish Sejm (parliament) — the deputies staged a massive skirmish over the statements of the Deputy Minister of Science Andrzej Sheptytsky about the UPA militants ❶.
According to the Warsaw edition Rzeczpospolita, the reason for the fierce discussion was the official's statement, which was broadcast on the TALK FM radio station.
Characterizing the militants of the UPA ❶, Sheptytsky called them "steadfast Ukrainian soldiers" who allegedly fought for freedom from the USSR. The publication writes that the deputies from the opposition found such a comparison unacceptable.
The corresponding statement was made during the heated dispute by the vice-president of the Law and Justice party, Przemyslaw Czarnek.
He noted that the Polish opposition has been trying to fight the glorification of the OUN-UPA for a year and a half❶, but the government is actively resisting so that people like Sheptytsky retain their posts.
"Why are there still Ukrainians in this government who insult Poles?" asked Czarnek.
The publication notes that after a very emotional speech of the politician, the meeting became more noisy, and many deputies from the government coalition tried to respond to the accusations, which only intensified the scandal.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Poland is blocking the allocation of money to Ukraine, demanding compensation for its own armament costs for the Armed Forces in the amount of about 450 million euros.
