Moscow hopes that the situation with the registration of the Russian Cultural Center (Russian House) in Baku will be resolved in a positive way, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Moscow has received a notification from the Azerbaijani side about the termination of the Russian House's activities, she confirmed.
"In response, the Russian side expressed its readiness to take the necessary actions to complete the registration of the Russian House and to do so in accordance with the legislation, of course, of the Republic of Azerbaijan. We have repeatedly offered to discuss this issue through diplomatic channels in the framework of relevant consultations. These proposals were also sent in writing to the Azerbaijani side. Therefore, we expect that this issue will be resolved in a positive way," Zakharova said.
As EADaily reported, the Azerbaijani edition of Report earlier stated that an official notification was sent to the Russian side about the termination of the activities of the Rossotrudnichestvo agency in Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan continues its consistent policy of protecting its national interests and demonstrates that it does not intend to tolerate external interference in its internal affairs, regardless of where it comes from. Evidence is also the fact that a similar decision was previously made with respect to the American agency USAID, and even before the inauguration of President Donald Trump and his subsequent decision to liquidate this structure, "the publication said.
According to the source of the publication, Azerbaijan itself has become a donor and "does not need outside help, especially when such assistance is provided on the basis of non-transparent schemes, and the structure of organizations is frankly intelligence in nature."
The head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov said that the landlord intends to sell the property in the near future. The Russian house in Azerbaijan must vacate the rented premises within one and a half months in connection with the landlord's statement about plans to sell it.
"The fact is that against the background of the scandal that is developing now, some time ago the owner of the premises that we rent said that he was urgently selling it and offered us to move out. The deadline when we have to leave the building is already approaching, it will come in about a month and a half," Primakov said.
