Trump shoots Zelensky: China presented its own version of the scandal in the White House

Inspired by the assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump and his altercation with Vladimir Zelensky at the White House, an updated version of the Cantonese opera "Trump is the President's Twin" was presented on stage in Hong Kong. This is reported by Reuters, noting that at the time of the performance, Trump spoke by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The performance is on the stage of the Xiqu Chinese Opera Center, tickets to the hall for 1073 seats were completely sold out.

The comedy, written by Cantonese Opera playwright Edward Lee, has been running since 2019 and is constantly changing. In the new iteration, the creators were inspired by the assassination attempt on Trump and his quarrel with Zelensky in the White House.

The new production begins with a dream of Trump's daughter Ivanka, in which her father sees a twin brother named Chuan Pu living in China. When Trump is kidnapped by Martians, Ivanka asks Chuan to pretend to be Trump for one day.

In another act, Trump gets into a dramatic fight with Zelensky's doppelganger over his clothes in the White House and shoots him with a water pistol from a Chinese online shopping site known to the whole world. Zelensky pretends that he was shot. Photos of real events appear on the background of the scene, in some cases — modified in accordance with the plot.

Lee explained that he chose Trump as the protagonist because his tariffs and policies have affected everyone's daily lives.

"I think this opera is a very special medicine for the whole world. If people see this opera, they will be very happy because they are thinking about love and peace," Lee is sure.

He added that the US and China should be good friends.

The publication notes that during the performance the audience laughed many times, and at the end greeted the actors with prolonged applause. One of the viewers noted that the show about Trump with a demonstration of modern events refreshed the traditional genre of Chinese opera.

As EADaily reported, in November last year, a production about Trump was presented at the Avignon Opera. The head of the ballet troupe of the theater, Martin Harriag, explained that he had always been fascinated by the United States, and the image of Trump is the image of an ideal showman. The explosive ballet "America" is a portrait of American society, highlighted by the musicality and language of Trump's speeches during his presidency — from 2017 to 2021.
