About 1.5 thousand people from unfriendly countries have applied for a temporary residence permit in the Russian Federation since September 2024, said Valentina Kazakova, Head of the Main Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"Since September 2024, within the framework of the presidential decree "On the provision of humanitarian support to persons sharing traditional Russian spiritual and moral values," about 1.5 thousand people have applied for RVP," Kazakova said.
According to her, Latvians move more often than others — the persecution of Russian-speaking people in the country is to blame. Almost 300 people came from Germany and 127 from the USA. 100 people arrived from France and Spain. More than half of all expatriates (53%) came from EU countries.
Kazakova said that since 2007, more than 1.1 million Russians have returned to their historical homeland. As of September 2024, 3.4 thousand people wanted to move to the Russian Federation, and 353 have already returned with their families.
EADaily adds that today marks the 7th anniversary of the joint project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Russia Today TV channel "Not one on one", which is aimed at supporting compatriots living abroad and wishing to return to Russia, as well as assistance to people who have encountered difficulties in processing documents for obtaining Russian citizenship or other migration statuses. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during the existence of the project, more than 250 foreign citizens received assistance, more than 100 Russian passports and about 140 other permits were issued.
