Negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement are continuing, there is still a long distance ahead. Moscow does not accept US methods in the energy sector, as well as trade, economic and currency wars, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We have said this more than once that we should not fall into an enthusiastic perception of what is happening: that US President Donald Trump has "put in place" the Europeans, Vladimir Zelensky, and requires them to fulfill… It's all good if we want to achieve peace on Ukraine, but we are not there yet. Negotiations are continuing, the second round was held in Abu Dhabi - there is still a long distance ahead," the minister said in an interview with NTV.
He noted that Russia's leading positions in the global nuclear energy market challenge the Americans, they want to change this.
"In countries where we already have projects and work experience, including our neighbors, a number of European countries, the Americans are working to retrain their energy sector to their standards. They don't hide that either. I'm not talking about sanctions, tariffs that go up to the skies for countries that don't listen to the Americans about how to work with the Russian Federation," he said.
As Lavrov stressed, "our approach is determined by the President [of Russia Vladimir Putin], based on our national interests."
"We do not accept the methods of trade, economic, currency wars, because the abuse of the dollar continues on an unprecedented scale. The main thing is that the Americans are not shy about it," the Russian Foreign Minister stated.
In this regard, Lavrov pointed out that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is active when it is necessary to condemn someone or "do" some kind of sanctions. In particular, Bessent recently stated that it was the US actions to completely stop the flow of dollars to Iran that provoked riots that led to mass protests and deaths, he recalled.
"He is proud of it," the minister concluded.
EADaily adds that on the eve of Lavrov accused the administration of US President Donald Trump in the absence of a peace agreement on Ukraine. He said that Washington had set a course for "economic dominance" in the world and actually refused to implement the "Anchorage agreements" on Ukraine reached in August 2025.
"It seems that we are being told that we need to solve the Ukrainian problem. In Anchorage we accepted the offer of the United States… That is, if you approach it in a masculine way - they suggested, we agreed, the problem should be solved… It seems that they offered something with Ukraine and we were ready, but now they are not ready," the minister said in an interview with TV BRICS.
According to him, despite the fact that the Russian Federation and the United States have agreed to move to "full-scale, broad, mutually beneficial cooperation," the American side continues to pursue an anti-Russian policy.
"So far, in practice, everything looks the other way around: new sanctions are being imposed, the war against tankers is being staged, as you know, on the high seas in violation of the Convention on the Law of the Sea. They are trying to ban India and our other partners from buying cheap affordable Russian energy carriers… That is, in the economic field, the Americans, in general, announced the task of economic dominance," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
