"Stop it!" — Zakharova is outraged by the "distribution" of US citizenship to the children of Russian diplomats

Moscow does not recognize the imposition of American citizenship on Russian citizens born into the families of diplomats, administrative, technical and consular staff in the United States. But Russians cannot give up this unnecessary citizenship — the US authorities do not allow it. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

"So far, the president [of the United States Donald] Trump is trying to restore order in the American migration balance, cooked up by his predecessors, while his own employees are engaged in intrigues behind his back — they are spoiling the already ailing Russian-American relations just in the field of migration," the diplomat wrote in her article "Thank you, no need. That's enough. Stop it!", published in the newspaper "Vedomosti" today, May 4.

As she notes, "the deep state in the United States has created a new problem for putting pressure on Russian diplomats, despite the fact that this is becoming the clearest example of the decline of the notorious "American democracy"."

"Now the State Department or those who stand behind the American diplomatic screen have begun to extend US citizenship to the children of employees of Russian consulates born in American jurisdiction until they reach adulthood, literally by force, under the pretext of the The US Constitution "rights of the soil", and the allegedly limited nature of consular immunity," Zakharova notes.

She emphasizes that "they do not need the distribution of American citizenship to the children of employees of Russian diplomatic missions," but "local authorities do not give up [it]." And all this is happening, Zakharova points out, "right now, when, on the basis of agreements between the leaders of Russia and the United States, attempts are being made to eliminate such "irritants."

According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, "such a demonstrative "pinpoint interest" of the American authorities in the children of employees of Russian foreign institutions causes real alarm."

"No, not for our diplomats, but for the mental health of American officials," she writes.

"The Russian side does not recognize the imposition of American citizenship on Russian citizens born in the families of our diplomatic, administrative, technical and consular staff in the United States," the diplomat emphasizes.

She adds that Moscow will require Americans to confirm on a case-by-case basis that the newborn is not under U.S. jurisdiction and has all the immunities and privileges provided for in the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, as well as bilateral agreements.
