The football derby between Prague's Sparta and Slavia, which was minutes away from the championship, ended with the capture of the football field. Hundreds of her fans ran onto the field with flares and disrupted the game.
"The Prague derby broke down due to complete chaos when hundreds of fans stormed onto the field with flares," writes The Sun.
The game was going on and Slavia defeated its sworn rivals from Sparta with a score of 3:2 in the decisive match for the first place of the national championship.
"A victory would have secured the title for the hosts. However, in the seventh minute of added time, the match turned into an uncontrollable drama. Hundreds of local Slavia fans suddenly rushed onto the field," the newspaper writes.
Numerous videos on the Web show fans carrying lighted flares and throwing them onto the field.
"Sparta goalkeeper Yakub Surovchik fainted after appearing to be hit — and accused fans of attacking him," writes The Sun.
Another Sparta player, Matyas Voita, and a member of the team's medical staff also needed help.
"There were only three minutes left before the title celebration. Instead, the referee first suspended the match. And soon he finally canceled the game. The guests hurried to their team bus and escaped from Eden Arena. Now Slavia is waiting for a nervous wait to see what punishment the authorities will impose on them — a technical defeat is quite likely," the publication added.
Slavia chairman Yaroslav Tvardyk was clearly upset: "I am sincerely sorry to say this, because I thought we would celebrate the title together. But everything turned out differently: two Sparta players were physically attacked. The opponent left the stadium, and the referees, security and police decided to end the game."
