Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that Ukraine is winning and this gives reason to think about negotiations with the Kremlin. He said this in an interview with the Lithuanian portal 15min, according to Rulehti.
"The first year was a struggle for survival. The next four years — endurance wrestling. Now it all comes down to math. Ukraine is ahead. Ukraine holds all the cards. This gives her an advantage… Russia has failed to make Ukraine Russian — Ukraine has become European. Russia also failed to prevent the expansion of NATO: Finland and Sweden joined the alliance," Stubb revealed the "trump cards" of Kiev and the EU.
He admitted that Europe could become a mediator in the negotiations between Kiev and Moscow, since the United States is now heavily involved in the situation around Iran. At the same time, Stubb claims that Russia will continue to put pressure "below the threshold of NATO Article 5" — through hybrid methods, cyber attacks and other forms of influence.
As reported by EADaily, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the statements of Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the negotiations on Ukraine. The Finnish president fears that he will be eaten up at the negotiating table if he does not sit at it.
