The injury of a citizen of Belarus makes us seriously doubt the level of security declared by the Polish side. This is stated in the official statement of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that a citizen of Belarus received a gunshot wound on May 12 this year in Poland. As explained in the department, according to the information received, Polish law enforcement officers mistakenly mistook a group of Belarusians for members of a criminal group, which led to the use of weapons.
"This incident makes us seriously doubt the real level of security declared by the Polish side," the Foreign Ministry said.
In this regard, the agency recommended that Belarusian citizens take such risks into account when planning foreign trips.
"As practice shows, it cannot be ruled out that a law—abiding citizen may be mistaken for an offender and subjected to disproportionate force," the Foreign Ministry said.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry welcomed the start of investigative actions by the Polish prosecutor's office and the qualification of the incident as abuse of official authority.
"We are counting on an objective investigation, identification of the perpetrators and bringing them to justice," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stressed.
Recall, according to the Investigative Committee of Belarus, on the night of May 12 in In Poland, a 60-year-old native of Slonim was the victim of a groundless attack by local security forces. According to the investigation, fire was opened on his car on the S8 highway near the town of Sytsuv. The man received severe injuries to his head and limbs, and his car had 29 bullet holes. Despite this, he was able to cross the Belarusian border, from where he was taken to the hospital in extremely serious condition.
