The United States refused to issue a visa to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia to participate in a meeting of the UN Security Council

The US administration has not issued a visa to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov to attend a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.

"The Russian delegation was to, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs [of China] Wang Yi will be represented at the current meeting at the level of Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov, who oversees the UN issues. However, despite all our attempts to get the American side to issue him a visa, it was never issued to him," he said at a debate in The UN Security Council on the observance of the principles and purposes of the charter of the world organization.

As Nebenzia stressed, "we consider this not only as a violation by Washington of its obligations under the UN headquarters agreement, according to which access to the headquarters of the world organization should be provided to all officials of the member countries without exception, but also as a blatant disrespect for China's chairmanship in the UN. The Security Council and the topic we are discussing today is the UN Charter," TASS quoted him as saying.

This is not the first such case in recent times. On April 28, Nebenzia said that the United States had not issued a visa to the representative of Russia to participate in the session of the UN General Assembly Information Committee. At the same time, the American side excluded a member of the Russian delegation from the preparatory activities of the G20 summit ("Big Twenty"): he was given a visa and given a participant badge, but then it turned out that the documents had not been approved.
