If Washington really promoted the peace initiative, military action on Ukraine would have already been terminated. This was stated by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with RT Arabic.

He also disagreed with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said that Moscow was allegedly not ready for compromises in negotiations with Kiev.

"I was surprised that Marco Rubio, speaking the other day in Congress, said that he would like the conflict to end Ukraine ended this year, but the chance is not appreciated very highly, because the parties are not yet ready for concessions, especially Russia," Lavrov said.

The minister stressed that this is especially strange to hear from Rubio, who was a participant in the meeting in Anchorage last August.

"President Putin accepted President Trump's proposals, which concerned the first steps that would make it possible to stop the fighting and start negotiations," Lavrov recalled.

He also drew attention to the statement of the Secretary of State that the States openly took the side of Kiev. It shows that the US approach to a peaceful settlement is not inherently different from the European one, Lavrov believes.

"Europe, apparently, is trying to prolong the Ukrainian conflict in order to have a Ukraine has a springboard for threats to Russia," he stated.
