More than 48 kg of amber, which has the status of a "strategically important resource" of Russia, was prevented from being exported to Lithuania by employees of the Kaliningrad regional and Moscow Customs in cooperation with the Federal Security Service of Russia. This was reported in the telegram channel of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation.
"A car driven by a Russian was stopped in the customs control zone of the Chernyshevskoye checkpoint. Inspectors found valuable cargo in a gas cylinder under the bottom of the car. The examination established that the items are processed and unprocessed amber, as well as blanks from it. The total cost of the goods amounted to 2.2 million rubles,"the department said.
A criminal case has been opened against the man under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of strategically important resources).
"As part of further investigative actions, alleged participants in illegal activities have been identified. More than 2.5 tons of amber and its products were found and seized from them without documents," the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation notes.
It is reported that a batch of amber has been sent for examination. The legality of its origin is checked. The investigation is ongoing.
