Crimean meteorologists report that an abnormal heat wave has set in on the peninsula. On some days, the difference with the norm is 7 degrees Celsius. Crimeans and tourists massively turn on air conditioners. The energy system of the peninsula can no longer withstand.
"Due to an abnormal increase in air temperature, as well as increased electricity consumption during the daytime, automation is triggered in the power supply networks," Vladimir Voronkin, Minister of Fuel and Energy of Crimea, wrote in the telegram channel.
He gave an example that today, on July 18, at 13.00 there was a disconnection of subscribers in Alushta and Simferopol.
"De—energized: 32 TP, 4,790 supply points (10,965 people)," the minister explained. He urged guests and residents of the peninsula to save electricity during the day.
"In order to avoid the introduction of rolling blackouts in power supply networks," Vladimir Voronkin explained.
As EADaily reported with reference to the System Operator of the Unified Energy System of Russia, electricity consumption records are breaking in the south of the country. So, against the background of hot weather, the absolute historical maximum consumption of electric power reached on July 14 in Stavropol Territory — 2026 MW, as well as in the Rostov region — 3518 MW.
