US President Donald Trump has found a new enemy, this time Spain, which he criticized for unwillingness to bring defense spending to the level of 5% of GDP, as all NATO countries agreed in the summer. Therefore, the head of the White House proposed to expel her from The North Atlantic Alliance.
"Spain. We need to call them and find out why they are lagging behind," Trump said during a conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, "and they are doing well too, you know. Thanks to a lot of the things we've done, they're doing fine."
As Trump noted, Spain has no excuse not to bring defense spending to the level agreed by NATO countries.
Then, for some reason, he added: "But this is normal," after which he immediately stated: "Maybe they should be kicked out of NATO, to be honest."
