The US missile strike on The capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife provoked a sharp response from the Brazilian president. The situation reminded him of one that the region had already gone through several decades ago.
"The bombing on the territory of Venezuela and the seizure of its president go beyond all limits of what is permissible. These actions represent a serious encroachment on the sovereignty of Venezuela and another extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community," Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said in a statement.
The Brazilian President believes that attacking countries is a flagrant violation of international law, and this is the first step towards a world of violence, chaos and instability, where the law of the strongest prevails over multilateralism.
"Condemning the use of force is consistent with the position that Brazil has always taken in recent situations in other countries and regions. These actions are reminiscent of the worst moments of interference in the politics of Latin America and the Caribbean and threaten the preservation of the region as a zone of peace," the Brazilian president said.
He believes that the international community, through the United Nations, should respond decisively.
As EADaily reported, on Saturday morning, the United States launched missile strikes on various facilities in Caracas and captured the Venezuelan president and his wife, whom they promise to deliver today to New York. In addition to Brazil, Russia, Iran, Colombia, Cuba and Belarus expressed their support for the Venezuelan people.
