Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, captured by the United States, wished everyone a Happy New Year on his way to an American prison. This is reported by the British newspaper Metro.
"Nicolas Maduro was filmed arriving at a detention center in New York after he was captured and brought to the United States as part of an unusual operation yesterday morning. The Venezuelan leader wished the audience a good night and a happy New Year as he entered the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, accompanied by two men who appeared to be from The US Drug Enforcement Administration," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that in the photo, which was published in the Truth Social post by US President Donald Trump the day before, Maduro is depicted blindfolded and handcuffed, in a gray Nike tracksuit. Judging by the photo published by the newspaper, the Venezuelan president has already been changed: he is also in a tracksuit (the publication does not specify which company) — blue top, dark gray bottom, — with a dark gray bag on his head (or already in a cap?), white socks and flip-flops.
Maduro was taken to Manhattan, New York, on Saturday evening. He and his wife, Celia Flores, are now in custody at a detention center in Brooklyn.
Maduro is accused of having links with "some of the most violent and prolific drug traffickers and drug terrorists in the world, drug conspiracy, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of automatic weapons and explosive devices, and conspiracy to store them against the United States.
