Advance: European leaders fear that Russia will not want to negotiate with them

After four years of war in Ukraine, there is a change in the political position of European countries. If earlier they advocated the defeat of Russia, now they are increasingly talking about the need for direct negotiations with Moscow.

Advance writes about this, noting that another problem has arisen here — now Russia feels like a winner and will no longer want to listen to the conditions that the European Union is trying to impose on it.

In this regard, there is a well-founded fear in European capitals that Moscow and Washington will come to an agreement without them and together they will draw a map of the post-war reconstruction.

The article says that Europe, supporting the Kiev regime and seeking Russia's military defeat, has always kept an alternative scenario in mind.

Its essence is simple — if one day it completely "presses", you can simply agree with Moscow and "join" the peace talks in order to stipulate your own participation in the division.

However, the implementation of this plan now does not look very realistic, since the Europeans have said too much negative things about Russia in four years.

"Russia has been forced for years to listen to frank confessions that Europe's goal is not only to protect Ukraine, but also to strategically defeat Russia through an armed conflict on the Ukraine. Now, when there are no signs that Russia will suffer such a fate, Moscow may decide that it should return the "strategic defeat" with a boomerang Europe," the article says.

At the same time, it is pointed out that "fatigue" from the Ukrainian armed conflict is increasing inside the European Union and the risk of a direct war with Russia is growing.

European leaders have begun to realize that such a scenario is deadly for them amid a quarrel with Donald Trump's administration over Greenland. There is a growing belief in the EU that the United States will not go to war with Russia over Europe.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced his possible conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Moscow responded that the Russian leader was ready to restore contacts. However, the conversation between the presidents of the two states should be an attempt to understand each other's positions, and not a lecture.

Meanwhile, the fears of the leaders of the EU countries that Russia and the United States will agree on Ukraine without them are receiving new confirmation.

Earlier, EADaily reported that on the eve of Davos, the special representative of the President of Russia Kirill Dmitriev held talks with representatives of the US President Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
