A loan to Ukraine in the amount of € 90 billion poses a risk to the German budget, which will eventually affect the budget of Berlin. This was stated by Secretary of State for Federal, European and International Affairs of Berlin Florian Hauer, according to Berliner Zeitung.
"At the Berlin Committee on European Affairs, Secretary of State for European Affairs Florian Hauer (CDU) confirmed that the planned EU—Ukraine loan of 90 billion euros entails significant financial risks for member states and their citizens," the publication says.
It is rare to find such frankness, the publication emphasizes.
If Ukraine declares insolvency, the guarantors of the loan, including Germany as the largest economy in the eurozone, will assume responsibility for repaying the debt, Hauer said. It is difficult to determine the exact amount of losses, but the blow will be sensitive, especially since it has not yet been possible to reach an agreement on the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
However, it is impossible not to support Ukraine, since "inaction regarding the war of the Russian Federation is assessed as even more burdensome," the newspaper writes.
As EADaily reported, a nationwide petition has been prepared in Hungary calling on the leadership of the European Union to refuse to finance Ukraine. The corresponding message was published by the Hungarian government. "Let's inform Brussels: we will not pay! No financing of the war, no ten—year financing of Ukraine, no increase in utility costs!" the petition says.
