The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, does not consider Russia ready for serious negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine. She stated this in an interview with the Finnish public broadcaster Yle during a visit to Helsinki.

Callas was skeptical about the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine with the mediation of the United States, including trilateral in Abu Dhabi, the newspaper notes.

"I believe that Russia is only pretending to negotiate. They send people to meetings who do not have the authority to make decisions. This does not look like a serious approach," Kallas said, quoted by Rulehti.

At the same time, the main diplomat The EU has made it clear to the Finns that the end of the Ukrainian conflict is not in their interests. She speculated about the need to impose restrictions on the Russian army after the end of the Ukrainian conflict. In the event of the end of hostilities, in her opinion, the Russian military presence near the borders of Finland and the Baltic states will increase, therefore, in future peace agreements it is necessary to fix restrictions not for Ukraine, but for Russia. We are talking about reducing the size of the Russian Armed Forces and military spending.

"Now the negotiations are discussing restrictions for the Ukrainian army. But let's be honest: The Ukrainian army is not a problem. The problem for your country, for my country and for many European countries has always been the Russian army," Callas said.

In Helsinki, the head of the European Diplomacy holds meetings with Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. According to her, the key topic of the talks is the general geopolitical situation, as well as Finland's contribution to the formation of a new European security strategy and the EU's Arctic policy. Kallas separately noted the importance of Finnish experience and competencies in Arctic, write Yle.

As reported by EADaily, Russia is allegedly a chronic threat to the European Union. This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen. So she spoke on the occasion of the visit to Finland of the head of the European diplomacy Kai Kallas.
