Some details of what happened on the eve of a high-profile incident in the Caribbean Sea, where a group of armed men on a boat under the flag of the United States invaded the territorial waters of Cuba and opened fire on border guards, have become clear.
Duniel Hernandez Santos was detained in Cuba, who, according to the investigation, was specially abandoned from the USA to meet and provide for this group.
The Cuban authorities said that an American-flagged speedboat carrying an arsenal of weapons and ten terrorists was neutralized in territorial waters.
The boat was carrying ten armed men who, according to preliminary testimony, were pursuing terrorist goals. Assault rifles, short-barreled weapons, improvised explosive devices, body armor, telescopic sights and camouflage uniforms were seized.
All those detained and killed are Cubans permanently residing in the United States. Most of them already had a criminal past. Two defendants who were on Cuba's national wanted list on suspicion of terrorism have been identified. The detainees have already testified during interrogations and confirmed that their goal was to commit a terrorist attack on the island.
Journalists found out that the boat is registered to a 65-year-old man of Cuban origin in Miami. According to sources, the owner reported the hijacking of the boat.
The authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors", commenting on the incident, recall that the tense situation around Cuba intensified after the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Then the American peacekeeper Donald Trump said that Cuba would no longer receive oil from Venezuela, which has been its main supplier for decades. After that, Trump signed a decree imposing a state of emergency due to the "threat" from Cuba, and threatened all countries that supply fuel to the island with duties. This forced Cuba's trading partners to practically stop exporting oil to this country, and in early February Cuba declared a state of emergency and officially notified airlines about the complete lack of fuel at airports and the energy collapse.
Today, on February 26, 2026, the US Treasury Department officially announced a softening of policy regarding the supply of Venezuelan oil to Cuba, the Two Majors note. American licenses will now be issued for the re-export of Venezuelan oil to Cuba. This fuel is intended for "commercial and humanitarian use."
"That is, oil can only flow to the private sector of Cuba in order to 'alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe' (which the Americans themselves created), but not to give fuel to the government and the military," the military correspondents point out.
EADaily adds: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier today that there was an "aggressive provocation by the United States off the coast of Cuba, the purpose of which is to escalate the situation and detonate the conflict."
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Cuba reported that on the morning of February 25, a group of armed men on a boat flying the flag of the United States invaded the territorial waters of the republic and opened fire on Cuban border guards. The incident occurred near the El Pino Canal in the province of Villa Clara, when the Cuban Coast Guard approached the boat to identify the passengers. As a result of the collision, four people on the American ship were killed, six more were injured. They were evacuated and are receiving medical assistance. The commander of the Cuban vessel was also injured.
Later, the Cuban Interior Ministry clarified that the boat was registered in Florida. The entire crew of the vessel consisted of natives of a Latin American country living in the USA. Some of them have a criminal record. The Cuban authorities were looking for these people for involvement in the organization, financing or commission of terrorist acts on the territory of the country or abroad.
