The Russian military helped the Central African Republic (CAR) to avoid a coup d'etat, said the president of this country, Arcange Touadera.
In his interview with the TASS news agency, he clarified that in 2020, the CAR army, with the support of Russian instructors, managed to suppress the insurgencies and prevent the forceful seizure of power in the country.
"In 2020, we faced the rebellion of the SRS, which sought to destabilize the country and prevent the people of the country from coming to the polls. With the support of Russian instructors, our defense and security forces were able to thwart this attempt and strengthen security," the president said.
He also stressed that since 2020, Russia has been actively supporting the African state in various difficult and critical moments.
According to the recognition of the military of the Central African Republic, fighters of the private military company Wagner play an important role in ensuring the security of their country.
A special place in this work is occupied by the reintegration of surrendered militants. The "Wagnerites" organized the training of former rebels so that they would then take up civilian positions or join local law enforcement agencies.
Given the success of the Wagnerites in the CAR, President Touadera appointed his new security adviser from among them. They became the commander of the PMC with the call sign Salem Dmitry Podolsky.
It should be recalled that Russian fighters from the Wagner PMC continue to train servicemen of the army of the Central African Republic (CAR), taking into account the combat experience gained during the battles on the Ukraine.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks in Moscow with CAR President Arkange Touadera, the leaders will discuss international issues and prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
