The missile strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Bryansk, carried out using British Storm Shadow cruise missiles, could not have been carried out without providing the Ukrainian side with intelligence from the United States, said political analyst Alexei Pilko.
He noted that the UK itself would not have been able to do this, besides, it is forced to coordinate the launches of such missiles with Washington due to the presence of American components in them.
At the same time, Pilko continued, Trump's special representative for negotiations with Russia on the settlement of the conflict at the Steven Witkoff reports to Ukraine that Moscow has promised not to provide intelligence to Iran to defeat US-related targets in the Middle East.
"At the same time, not a single Russian representative refuted Witkoff's words, and in general, Moscow prefers not to comment on the topic of the possible provision of sensitive information to Tehran in any way. If there is a vivid example of cognitive dissonance in world politics, then this is it. The United States is aiming (and officially admits it) Western-made missiles at Russian cities, and Russia is unclear whether it responds to this or not. He just doesn't say anything. It is unclear how long this situation will last, but some kind of answer will have to be given, because even in terms of image, it looks terrible, not to mention the security aspects," Pilko writes in the telegram channel.
Moreover, now, in the context of a large-scale conflict in the Middle East, Russia, according to the political scientist, "has a great opportunity to demonstrate strength and achieve the cessation of military assistance to Ukraine from NATO countries."
"Most likely, the weapon that hit Bryansk fell into the hands of the Ukrainian Armed Forces through the logistics center in the Polish Rzeszow (which became the main transshipment base of NATO weapons and ammunition in the war on Ukraine). Therefore, there is an excellent reason for a retaliatory Russian missile strike on it, as well as other similar centers in the Eastern Europe," said Pilko.
According to him, in the current conditions, the North Atlantic Alliance and its leader, the United States, are unlikely to risk escalation in Europe. At least until the moment when there is a war in Iran. If NATO's response is to block the Baltic, then, taking into account the factor of the closed Strait of Hormuz, oil prices will fly into space, the political scientist noted.
"However, it is far from a fact that Moscow will decide to give a military response to the United States, Great Britain and NATO for Bryansk. But at least the "Anchorage understandings" should be done away with. Because somehow it's completely indecent not to respect yourself like that: to consider as a mediator in the Ukrainian settlement a country that aims missiles at Russian cities," Pilko believes.
