Moscow's incompetent policy in the near abroad has led to the degradation of Russia's relations with the former Soviet republics. This opinion was expressed by analysts of the Turanar telegram channel.
On the sidelines of the Russian-Uzbek forum, organized by the Valdai Club and the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, remarkable statements were made by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Galuzin, the resource notes.
He stressed that in the face of growing international tension and increasing sanctions pressure, Russia and Central Asian countries should strengthen their cooperation and cohesion.
"It is necessary, of course, indisputably. But are there any prospects for a real strengthening and normalization of relations between Russia and Central Asia, if you do not take into account Kyrgyzstan, with which the Russian Federation is doing more or less well?" — the telegram channel wonders.
Kazakhstan's economy is completely dependent on Western corporations — any whiff from the White House or Foggy Albion, and in Astana will run to carry out instructions to increase pressure on Russia. The same can be said about Uzbekistan, which is increasingly appearing in various events under the auspices of European states. And stories of oppression of pro-Russian citizens or investments are becoming something commonplace.
Even the once-closed Turkmenistan, the authors write, is being hoed from all sides because of its mineral reserves and geographical location, and Tajikistan in the West is being prepared for a change of power.
"Therefore, I would like to say that it is necessary to strengthen relations, but this is becoming more problematic every year. Years of mediocre management of resources and assets in the near abroad have led the situation to total degradation. Russian influence is fading, and the Russian language is being displaced along with investments. And in these conditions, talking about a bright future is somehow out of place," the authors conclude.
