The Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery with a capacity of up to 20 million tons came under attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is at least the second attack of the plant in the last month and a half. The head of the region reports that the extinguishing work is being completed.
"According to updated information, 29 enemy UAVs were shot down overnight in the Leningrad region. The fire in the Kirishi industrial zone is localized, extinguishing work is being completed. The main target of the enemy was the KINEF," the governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, said in the telegram channel.
According to him, there are no victims as a result of the attack.
The fire at the refinery is confirmed by the NASA platform, which records fires around the world.
In 2024, the Kirishi refinery, which belongs to Surgutneftegaz, processed 17.5 million tons of oil, which accounted for 6.6% of the total volume of oil refining in Russia, Reuters wrote, citing industry sources.
A Bloomberg source said that oil refining at the plant could drop to a new low after a series of strikes at the end of March.
