The Russian Su-27 performed dangerous maneuvers six meters from the British military aircraft. This is reported by The Guardian.
It is noted that it was a reconnaissance aircraft of the Royal Air Force, and the incident occurred over the Black Sea. The head of the Ministry of Defense, John Healy, called it unacceptable.
"The Russian plane flew within six meters of a British Air Force reconnaissance aircraft flying at a speed of 500 miles (800 km) per hour over the Black Sea — one of two incidents in the air last month that Defense Secretary John Healy called "dangerous and unacceptable," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, in mid-April, a Su-27 fighter jet walked six times in front of the nose of an unarmed RAF Rivet Joint aircraft, "which could lead to a collision that could cause a diplomatic crisis between the two countries."
For the second time, and also in mid-April, the Russian Su-35 flew close enough to the British intelligence officer when he was "performing a surveillance mission over international airspace." According to the newspaper, this activated the emergency systems of the British aircraft, including disabling the autopilot.
It is noted that Rivet Joint is a reconnaissance aircraft with a crew of up to 30 people, capable of carrying out a wide range of electronic surveillance at a distance of about 150 miles and tracking Russian activities as part of a NATO patrol.
"This incident is another example of the dangerous and unacceptable behavior of Russian pilots in relation to an unarmed aircraft operating in international airspace. These actions create a serious risk of accidents and possible escalation," Healy said.
