The Spanish court overturned the decision of the tax service, which demanded from Colombian singer Shakira (Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll) more than € 55 million in unpaid taxes in 2011. This is reported by the portal El Pais with reference to the court order.

"The National Court of Spain has satisfied singer Shakira's appeal against the decision of the Tax Agency and the Central Administrative and Economic Court regarding income tax and property tax for 2011. The court canceled tax charges and fines, the amount of the dispute for which exceeded € 55 million," the newspaper quotes the court's decision.

The court found that the tax service did not prove the fact that in 2011 the center of economic and family ties of the star was in Spain. At the same time, the court stressed that this decision refers specifically to this period — only 2011.

It is specified that the tax service failed to prove that Shakira spent 183 days in Spain that year to recognize the singer as a tax resident. According to the court's findings, Shakira spent only 163 days in Spain in 2011.

This is just one of the singer's many tax disputes with Spain, a number of which continue to the present.

As EADaily reported, in November 2023 Shakira was able to negotiate with the court and avoid a prison sentence in the case of tax evasion in the amount of € 14.5 million. She claimed that from 2012 to 2013 she did not pay Spanish income tax due to "personal reasons." As part of the deal with the court, the singer admitted the charges and agreed to pay a fine of half the unpaid amount — € 7.3 million. Another fine of € 438 thousand. she paid to avoid a three-year prison sentence.
