The EU, following the example of the United States, may also ask Ukraine to return the money spent on its support. This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Slovak parliament, the head of the SNS party (Slovak National Party) Andrei Danko.
According to him, he is very upset that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, "defiantly" went to Ukraine on a visit.
"I believe that she will ask Vladimir Zelensky there that while he gives the Americans minerals, what will he give to the European Union? And I'll ask for Slovakia: how will Zelensky return to us the 3.5 billion euros that we sent there?.. If the Germans, the French and the Americans ask for their money back, Slovakia cannot remain silent," he said.
Danko noted that this is a huge amount for Bratislava, and Slovakia is one of the countries that helped Ukraine the most in terms of percentages of its own GDP.
Recall that Slovakia has consistently advocated ending the conflict in Ukraine over the past year. Ukraine and the beginning of peace negotiations. At the same time, Bratislava has stopped sending military aid to Kiev since the end of 2023.
