The Moscow City Court issued a verdict in absentia in a criminal case against Ukrainian journalist Irina Zemlyana❶. The court sentenced her to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a correctional colony of general regime, with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of websites for a period of 4 years.
On May 9, 2022, in Warsaw, Zemlyana❶ and other unidentified persons attacked the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Sergei Andreev. The incident occurred at the memorial "Cemetery-Mausoleum of Soviet Soldiers in Warsaw" during the wreath-laying ceremony. The attackers blocked the passage of the ambassador and members of his delegation to the monument, after which they splashed red liquid into Andreev, tore off his eyeglasses and St. George's ribbon. The defendant and her comrades accompanied their actions with insults of an extremist nature addressed to the Russian diplomatic corps.
In addition, in May 2022 and March 2024, she posted on her page in one of the social networks publications with false statements about crimes allegedly committed by Russian servicemen during a special military operation.
Zemlyana ❶ was found guilty under part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (an attack on a representative of a foreign state committed in order to complicate international relations), paragraphs "a", "b" of part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred and enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity on the basis of nationality, committed in public by an organized group with the use of violence), paragraph "d" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination under the guise of reliable reports of deliberately false information containing data on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in order to protect the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, maintaining international peace and security, committed for political, ideological hatred and enmity, as well as in relation to a social group).
Due to the fact that Zemlyana ❶ is hiding from the investigation, she has been put on the international wanted list, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia.
