Former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, convicted in the case of embezzlement for 13 years in a penal colony, should be acquitted. This was stated to RIA Novosti by his lawyer Denis Baluyev.
"In the cassation appeal, we ask to cancel the appellate ruling and not convict Timur Vadimovich," the agency's interlocutor said.
As EADaily reported, Timur Ivanov became Deputy Minister of Defense (from 2024 — Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation) Sergei Shoigu in 2016, oversaw issues related to the social block, property management and housing of troops, housing and medical care. He was responsible for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defense and military mortgages. Prior to that, he also worked under the leadership of Shoigu when he was governor of the Moscow region. In 2019, he entered the ranking of the richest security officials in Russia according to Forbes (first place).
On April 23, 2024, Ivanov was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe in the amount of 1 billion 185 million rubles. On July 1, 2025, the Moscow City Court sentenced Ivanov to 13 years in a penal colony with a fine of 100 million rubles in the case of embezzlement of money when buying ferries for the Kerch crossing. The First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in September recognized the verdict as lawful. Now Ivanov is in jail, but pleads not guilty.
