Ukrainians themselves are to blame for what Zelensky is doing to them and the country — Lukashenko

Having embarked on the path of militarization, Vladimir Zelensky may lose Ukraine, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with RT.

The Belarusian leader noted that he knows Vladimir Zelensky relatively well, whom he sympathizes with, despite criticism.

"He has already received Ukraine in a ready-made version. Yes, he should have changed this policy, but he did not change it — that national frenzy, nationalism, to which the Ukrainian people were exposed. He did not reverse this policy. But because he was inexperienced, he did not manage many processes. And the nationalists took over. And he couldn't handle it. We had something like that, but God helped me to cope with it," Lukashenko said.

The President of Belarus suggested that Zelensky did not have enough character and some experience to cope with the problems that existed on the Ukraine. At the same time, the Belarusian leader believes that if the country was headed by a sensible person aimed at supporting Ukrainians, the people would follow him.

"But he didn't. He did not become a leader then, and he has not become a leader now. He must understand that he is paying too high a price for what happened, for the policy, for the war that is going on today. He must understand this, and he must understand that if he does not stop, he will lose Ukraine. It is necessary to weigh and draw appropriate conclusions. He again embarked on the path of militarization, again went on about the West, which allegedly would give him money and give him weapons," Lukashenko said.

He also noted that his ancestors were born on Ukraine and he feel sorry for the Ukrainian people, who are now paying for their decisions.

"After all, they elected Zelensky president. Did they know he was an inexperienced person? They knew. Did they know the flaws? Maybe they didn't know. Why did you vote? They really elected Zelensky as President," the Belarusian leader noted.

Alexander Lukashenko reminded that in the first years of his presidency he was also to some extent "green".

"But I had the earth under my feet, a certain life experience. And he has a show. And they knew it too, the Ukrainians. But they elected him. True, it was difficult to choose from someone there. There and in the alternative there were such… They elected him and now they are paying for it, and they are paying very dearly… I have no right to reproach the Ukrainian people. But let the Ukrainians figure it out. They are also to blame for this. They democratically elected this President. Well, we have to answer for him," Lukashenko added.

The Belarusian leader drew attention to the fact that In Ukraine as a whole, rich people fought for power, which can be explained by corruption.

"As a result, it turned out: Zelensky and Poroshenko (former President of Ukraine Petro PoroshenkoEADaily). Everyone is tied up for a lot of money. I suspect (and I don't suspect, but we know it) that this money is not earned by them. Not all money is earned by them. All rich, tied to the West. And the West has the levers to control these people," Lukashenko summed up.
