In South Tyrol in Italy, due to an electronic malfunction, diesel was sold for several hours at 19.9 cents per liter instead of 1.999 euros. According to the Neue Südtiroler Tageszeitung, long queues lined up at the station. Some came with several cans. The fuel ran out faster than they managed to fix the malfunction.
The mayor of Avelengo, Anna Plank, confirmed that the situation was out of control. People were in a hurry to take advantage of an unexpected "action", which in fact turned out to be a technical error.
We are talking about a fully automated refueling without personnel. Prices on electronic display boards are updated remotely by the fuel supplier. During the update at the central office in Milan, instead of 1,999 euros, 0.199 was entered into the system. The difference in one digit cost the owner about 10 thousand euros.
Those who managed to refuel were lucky: customers cannot be held accountable. The price on the scoreboard was officially indicated, there was no deception on their part.
