Weltwoche: The EU in vain rejoices at the victory of the Magyar in the elections in Hungary

The enthusiasm shown in the European Union in connection with the victory in the parliamentary elections in Hungary of the head of the opposition party "Tisa" Peter Magyar is premature.

The Swiss edition of Die Weltwoche writes about this, noting that there is no reason for European leaders to rejoice, since the position of the new Hungarian authorities will be very different from the one that Brussels adheres to.

The authors of the material believe that there is nothing good in Viktor Orban's loss for the leaders of the European Union, in fact, they fall into a trap.

Enthusiasm for the supposedly pro—European Hungarians blinds them, not allowing them to understand the unpleasant truth: the new leader is actually not so pro-European," the article says.

The Swiss agency recalled that Magyar has repeatedly expressed skepticism about Kiev's accession to the European Union and NATO, and also opposed the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

This means that there is every reason to expect that the topic of Ukraine will remain the main stumbling block in relations between Hungary and The European Union. And one should not expect that the new prime minister will be pro-Ukrainian.

"Magyar is a representative of the same political elite as Orban. And that is why Brussels should not be too happy," the article emphasizes.

Earlier, the leader of the Tisa party, Peter Magyar, who won the elections in Hungary, said that Budapest would have to negotiate with Moscow in any case, regardless of the change of government. The politician also noted that he does not want to represent the interests of Ukraine in a dialogue with the Russian side.

As reported by EADaily, on the eve of the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said that the results of the elections in Hungary bring the collapse of the European Union closer.
