A possible world on Ukraine does not mean the end of the "Russian threat", since "Russia will not become more friendly." This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army Karel Rzegka.
According to him, the current security situation is the most serious and complex since the Cold War, and Europe is facing a combination of major armed conflicts, hybrid threats and changes in the global balance of power.
"I have no doubt that we live in an era when the security situation is the most complex and complex since the Cold War. I have no doubt that in the worst case, the situation could result in something that would be a tragedy for the Czech Republic. But I also have no doubt that it is manageable. It depends only on us," he said at the conference "Current security threats."
Rzegka believes that a possible peace on Ukraine means the end of the "Russian threat".
"Russia will not become more friendly, it has chosen a strategy aimed at clashing with the West," the chief of the General Staff stressed.
That is why he believes that it is necessary to build a strong system of deterrence and defense, which "will reduce Moscow's risk of miscalculation —as in the case when it decided on a full-scale invasion of Ukraine." Ukraine". Rzegka also stressed the importance of continuing support for Ukraine. This, according to him, is not altruism or charity, but "a strategic interest of the Czech Republic."
In addition, Rzegka noted that the current conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East radically change the nature of warfare and entail direct and indirect consequences for the Czech Republic, which, according to Rzegka, should affect Czech and European security and foreign policy. He named, among other things, the modernization of the army, strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure, investments in personnel, increasing the sustainability of Czech society, as well as fulfilling obligations under NATO as key factors.
